Demo Title: Vision defects and correction


Subject: Physiology


Description:
Demonstrate image formation in human eye for various defects (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism) and correction with lenses.


Procedure:

  • Turn on light source and show students normal sharp image.
  • Place retina in nearsighted slot and observe defocused image.
  • Add corrective diverging lens of focal length -1000 mm and see sharp image.
  • Place retina in farsighted slot, and again to correct deformed image, place corrective lens of focal length + 400 mm.
  • Place retina in normal slot, and place cylindrical lens of focal length -128 mm in front of lens in septum.
  • Observe distorted image and place cylindrical lens of focal length +307 mm in front of eye to correct this.
