Demo Title: Simple harmonic motion slide

Subject: Simple Harmonic Motion

Description:
This simple demo illustrates the direct mathematical relationship between uniform circular motion and simple harmonic motion.

Procedure:

  • Turn the hand crank at the top and show students that the transparent disc below rotates as the hand crank moves.
  • Highlight the two dots, one on a circle and one on a line.
  • Show how one dot moves in a circular motion with a constant angular velocity.
  • Observe how the other dot moves.
