Demo Title: Newton's 1st Law - The Law of Inertia

Subject: Inertia of Rest

Description:
Using a floating air puck inertia of an object is demonstrated. The air cushion beneath the puck when it is turned on removes the force of friction. The puck is then pushed at different speeds and the motion stays consistent until another force is acted upon it.

Procedure:

  • Explain Newton's 1st law
  • Place puck on table without turning it on and push across the table (note the friction which slows it down).
  • Turn puck on and push the puck across the table again.
  • Repeat this several times at different speeds, noting the puck stays at stead rate until a force is applied.
