Sane Voltage Bulbs

Code: 5J20.20

Demo Title: Series vs Parallel (AC Circuit) - Identical Bulbs

Subject: LR Circuits

Description:
Three identical light bulbs in series and three identical light bulbs in parallel show the fundamental difference between parallel and series circuits.

Procedure:

  • First, have the wattages for all of the lightbulbs be the same (75W)
  • Then ask the students to make predictions for how the brightness of the bulbs change depending on whether they are in series or parallel as the bulbs are turned on.
  • Lastly, discuss why the bulbs behave in the manner they do for the parallel and series circuits respectively.
