Demo Title: Falling Chimney

Description:
Falling chimney shows center of mass of a falling object by using a steel ball and board. When the board falls the center of mass is further down allowing the top of the board to fall faster. This causes the ball to land in the cup several inches down from where it began.


Procedure:

  • Place ball on rubber holder
  • Set board on rod at angle
  • Knock rod out making board fall
  • Ball lands in cup
  • Explain the reason why the ball lands in the cup
