Code: 4B40.10

Demo Title: Light The Match

Subject: Radiation

Description:
A match at the focal point of a parabolic reflector is lit by the radiation of a heating element at the focus of another reflector.

Procedure:

BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE SOURCE OF HEAT WHILE IT IS ON.

  • Make sure that the piece of cardboard/foam is in the middle before you turn on the source.
  • Turn on the heat source 5 minutes before running the demo.
  • During 5 minutes, compare the two sides of the white board using the radiometer
  • The side with the heat source should show the radiometer spinning fast
  • the side with the match should show the radiometer spinning slower and in the other direction
  • After the 5 minutes are over, remove the white board in a DRAMATIC fashion.
  • The match should light up in the next 15 seconds.
  • Bow as you are cooler than those who you present this too.
