1N22.20 - Water Rocket

Code: 1N22.20

Demo Title: Water Rocket

Subject: Rockets

Description:
Analysis of a water rocket to determine the optimum amount of water to use to achieve maximum height.

Procedure:

  • Fill the rocket approximately one-third full with water. This amount provides a balance between mass and space for air compression.
  • Secure the rocket nozzle to the launch base and attach the air pump to the valve at the base.
  • Ensure the connection is tight to avoid any air leakage during pumping.
  • Pump 20–25 times to pressurize the rocket. You’ll feel resistance as air builds up inside.
  • Once fully pressurized, detach the pump carefully while keeping the rocket stable on the base.
  • Step back and release the launch mechanism to let the rocket fly.
  • Observe the height and motion of the rocket. Be aware—you may get wet during launch!
  • For further investigation, repeat the demo using different water levels (e.g., 1/4, 1/2, 3/4) and compare the heights reached.
